Well, im getting much closer to actually purchasing an imac, and I just ran across this idea last night.
I can get a 20" 2.4 aluminum iMac for $1425 (after rebate), a Samsung 22" widescreen lcd with DVI inputs for $295, About $100 for a 2-3gig ram upgrade, and $250 for a 500gig external FW800 drive. Total is around $2070. Of coarse, I could spend about $75 extra for a full 4 gigs of ram.
Does this sound like a pretty good setup? I am trying to stay right around $2000-2100 total for a complete system with an external scratch disk, external widescreen monitor, and loaded with ram.
I was gonna go with the 24" imac, but that would have left me with only about 200-300 ($1799) left for all of the upgrades, which would not happen at that point.
Can anyone recomend a good external lcd? I don't need the best one. I just want one that I can use in concert with the 20" on the imac for Final Cut Pro and CS3, etc. Not for professional use, but more for prosumer use.
Thanks guys!
