Whoa... really?

This is the first I've heard of it! Seriously!

I wonder if there will be a Verizon representative in the video tomorrow?

This makes me happy. I'll be getting a new iPhone 12 at some point... but I'm never in a city with Verizon's mmWave "Sidewalk 5G"

So with this I might actually be able to use it! 😎

Not at all. I am plenty happy with 4g speeds. What they should do is spend time EXPANDING their current coverage area. I know plenty of areas where a good number of people live that get absolute garbage service when it comes to the data side of things. Seems unacceptable in today’s world to not get good service in a populated area. So on 5g lets expand our coverage to an acceptable level instead. Just my thoughts.

I really don't care about anything 5G mobile. When it comes to the speed advantage of 5G on a mobile phone, I just consider it a gimmick. I would much rather have good coverage of 4G LTE than spotty coverage of both.

The most interesting thing of 5G, and could probably have the biggest short term impact in the US, is 5G fixed wireless access. Hardly anyone is talking about this, and I don't know why.

I have been using Verizon since the launch of the iPhone 4s, and they used to be the best network in my area, but something happened about 2 years ago, and their LTE service started to suck, big time.

Considering LTE isn't going anywhere for a long, long time, lets get that working first, then worry about 5G.

I care. There’s a future in accessible 5G. No one is going to invest in 4G networks. So for those of us who use a phone for communicating, low band is important.

No one is going to invest in 4G networks.
Ummm......

In reporting its fourth quarter financials today, Verizon provided capex guidance in the $17 billion to $18 billion range.
...that investment will also pay out further densification of the LTE network...

The only map I was able to find only shows 5G at Miami Airport, nothing in the general Miami/Ft Lauderdale area other than that. Do you have an updated map?

I watched the iPhone Event keynote video today.

The Verizon executive spent a lot of the time discussing their mmWave 5G... which still has all the same problems that we know about. (distance, line-of-sight, etc)

But they did make a point to mention stadiums, venues, and airports... which are probably the only places you'll get this mmWave 5G unless you're on a sidewalk in a major city.

However... they only mentioned "Verizon Nationwide 5G" briefly at the end. And that's what this thread is talking about. I wanted to hear more about these 1,800 cities and towns. Will it (eventually) have the same coverage as existing 4G? Will it be as fast or faster than existing 4G? Can their 5G transmitters cover the same or more ground without having to add additional towers?

These are the questions I want answers to.

Also... was this Apple keynote video shown in other countries?

Since the iPhone is a worldwide product... Verizon means nothing to the rest of the world.

Imagine you were in Japan or Germany watching the keynote today. I bet those viewers were rolling their eyes when they started talking about this US-only carrier.
