I'm thinking of replacing my MBA 13 with a MBP 14, entirely for the superior display. The MBA for the most part has all the power I need 90% of the time.

My one gribe is that the 14" MBP seems a little heavier and bulkier than the MBA 13". Right now I carry my 13" Air with me, toss it in the bag without thinking.

For those of you who own or have owned both, how much do you notice the extra weight and bulk of the 14"? Do you toss the 14" in a bag without thinking about it or does the extra bulk/weight change the equation?

Right now my MBA feels light enough to be cushioned in a simple sleeve...will this change with the 14" due to its weight?

I have a MBP 14 (2021) and my partner has a MBA 13 (2022) - the difference is definitely noticeable from my perspective. The weight difference sounds pretty negligible on paper, but in reality, they do feel pretty different. That along with the thickness means obviously the MBA is more portable. I wouldn't say the MBA is the most portable laptop ever, but it is definitely the type of thing you can just pick up without thinking about, whereas the MBP has some heft and presence. Hope this helps!

M1 MBP 14 for personal use and M3 MBA 13 for work. The weight is noticeable both in terms of handling and in my bag. That’s the main reason I asked for an MBA instead of an MBP knowing I’ll be carrying it for the most part.

I have both, its very nice being able to choose based on mood and use case, mba wins bed computing always

I have the MBA 13" M4 and the MBP 14" M4 Pro, the former for work, the latter private. The MBP isn't that heavy, until you've been carrying around an Air. It makes a big difference, when you are holding both in the hand, but if you only have the one, you will get used to it after a few days.

That said, the screen difference isn't that noticeable for me, in every day use, they are both excellent, the MBP has a little more contrast when watching films and the speakers are excellent, but for general productivity work, there isn't much in it.

I did make the mistake of getting the blue MBA and the black MBP, both are stunning, when you unpack them, but they are both fingerprint magnets.

If I am going to be carrying it around all day, I'd go for the MBA, if I am carrying it to and from the car or it is docked most of the time, I'd take the MBP.

Battery life on the MBA is also amazing, I was doing some network tests at a different site, running 4K YouTube video in the background, pings to different services internally and externally and calling up web sites and performing speedtests. After 2 hours, the network techs from the service provider were scouring the server room for power sockets for their Windows laptops, only the techy with the MBP and I were on battery the whole day. After 5 hours it was down to around 65% battery. I stopped the video and packed up to go home. Next morning, I found that the pings had been running all night, with the screen off, the battery was at 28%.

Been given a MacBook Pro M4 form work to play around with and going to spend the weekend comparing it to my MBA M2. The MBA is lighter, but not massively to be fair. Really like the simple additions on the MBPro including:

  • Slightly bouncier keyboard
  • USB-c port on the right hand side
  • Space Black color (just looks very stealth)
  • Massive screen brightness which is really handy in sunny Dubai!

Do you use it outdoors in Dubai? Do you have glossy or matte display?

Screen brightness for outdoor usage is the precise reason I am considering a MBP!
