Amazon Prime Big Deal Days (almost sounds like something else when said out loud LOL) has AirPods Max for $349. I've never considered buying Max because I've felt that the regular price tag of $548 is way too much. However, I am considering buying now since Amazon has slashed the price. It does not appear Apple plans to release a new version soon. I would be disappointed if I bought Max then Apple released a new version with a new chip. So, buying now might be my best opportunity. Am I alone?

I would if I didn’t already own them. I don’t suspect Apple will release a new pair anytime soon because they just updated the current ones to USB-C. It is possible next October new ones come out. Of course they won’t be for $349.

The question you have to ask is do you need or want over the ear headphones and if so, why? If you’re just buying them because they’re cheaper but won’t use them then it’s a waste of money.

I am not the OP, but I can tell you that the sound difference between AirPods 1-4 + AirPods Pro 1-2 and most over the ear headphones is like night and day. Just pure physics - the bigger the driver, the better and more voluminous sound we can get! After using AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 I have switched to Beats Solo 4 and the sound difference is really remarkable to the Beats favour. I would consider AirPods Max as well, if they had not been so expensive and could support lossless audio, which they still do not, unlike smaller Beats that do.

Update: using Beats Solo 4 for over 10-15 minutes was so uncomfortable (too much pressure on the ears), that it cancelled out all the sound benefits of their larger transducers. So I have returned them and now will probably be going for AP4 with ANC.

I have been a user of AirPods Max since 2021. I regret to inform you that my device requires a daily reset to factory settings prior to use. When I reached out to Apple, they proposed that I pay $330 to replace the right-side module. In a manner that was both hesitant and courteous, they merely advised me to get something else!

If I listened to music to the degree I did when I was younger then I’d consider getting a pair of the AirPods Max for the discounted price. Since I don’t, the items I’ve listed below are more than sufficient for me.

1. AirPods Pro (second generation)
2. Jabra Elite 75t
3. Bose QC-35

I have owned Bose QC and Sony XM3. Those are in addition to AirPods Max. Sony had superior technology, but mediocre customer service whereas, Bose has acceptable technology with superior customer service. Good luck with your search!

AirPods Max are great when they work. However, I would warn people that Apple customer service is not offering a solution once they age beyond 2 years. The Genius Bar guy told me they don't have a way to run any diagnostic tests on them. Extremely weird!!!

That’s insane! AirPods Max cost too much money to be in that position. Thanks for the heads up!
