Started thinking maybe going 11 Pro this year for 2 years.

By then 5g will be fully implemented and the iPhone 14 would have the latest modems in them. I suspect the overall squared design would still be roughly the same.

Naturally this would be someone with a much older phone and not something like a 11 or XS.
I’m coming from a 6 so anything would be an improvement.

Or just buy 12 now and keep it for 4 years.

I don’t understand this squared design hype. Looks more bulky even it is thinner.

I would buy 11 Pro, but 64gb is for 999 eur now which is not good price...

Me too unfortunately - I guess most people use a case so don't notice maybe, but I'm finding it quite uncomfortable to use with the squared edges. If a 256gb 11 Pro goes down in price a bit more somewhere I may make the switch.

Yep me, I always buy last year's top phone whenever I need a new one. Besides, as the 11 pro is an end of design cycle phone, all internal components will be optimized for that size. Just look at the massive battery in there compared to the X, XS, or even 12 line-up. I'm just waiting until black friday to buy one, by then the new phones will be out and they will be wanting to clear the 11 pro stock. I'm expecting prices of 750-800 euro by the end of November. I can find a 64GB for 890 at the moment.

I think about it. Battery life is the only thing that really annoys me on my XS.

Now I am testing the 12 m.

This......back in 2014 iPhones were flat but then the 6 came in curved design....everyone was hyped about it and liked the design.

Now in 2020 Apple goes the opposite way and now everyone thinks it is much better. For some reason it makes it looks more dated in my opinion. Seems like for some people it is true that "new is always better", regardless of what new actually is.

It feels like change for the sake of change. Would have preferred something different, and not go back to a previous design.

Well, Black Friday is upon us and my carrier is clearing out iPhone 11 Pros.

I'm still torn...while I prefer the new design, the 11 is still a great phone and is competitive vs the regular 12.
However, I am hearing how well the iPhone 12 modems work.

The difference amounts to approx. $240 between the two.
Not a whole lot if you spread this over 2 years, it's $10/mth.
Thoughts?

I have 80mbit/s in shopping centre where i haven't had any signal with ip11
I would choose ip12 again only for a modem !

I’ve just done exactly this OP, picked up a brand new 11 pro 256gb for $500 off in Black Friday sale. Coming from an 8plus then briefly 2020 SE, so it’s my first OLED and Face ID iPhone. I was going to go 12 but the price of 11 pro was too good to pass up. I reckon go for it!

I bought the 12 PM on release date.

I was with apple from the first one up to 7. then went over to android and now i'm back.

However.. I love the design, and yes it feels heavy but it "feels" premium.

My reason to returning it was the screen. It's a warmer screen indeed and there is yellow tint if you compare it to older iphones. Maybe not everybody got it but i was in the applestore in my hometown and all of the display had some extent of yellow tint. Even the apple genius i booked time with showed hers and it was the same.

Picked up a used 11 Pro Max 512GB with applecare+ until september next year instead for almost half the price. Applecare+ transferred to my name as well so i'm all good.

Holding out until the 13 depending on if there are any new feature that i would like.

Don't get me wrong, the 12 is absolute beast but if you have a 11 already i wouldn't upgrade.

Yes, the camera is slightly better but for a day to day use I didn't see much of a difference. except night photos.

Batterywise my 11 have 89% battery health left but it's still almost as good as the 12 PM.

The guy that i bought the 11 PM off had the 12 PM and same thing with his screen. Yellow tint but he didn't mind, he was going to sell that one next year and get a new phone.

Well if it works for you then it's fine. But i would like to have my screen showing the correct color if/when i edit photos on the go. So jumping this years iphone

If money isn't an issue and the screen lottery is not an issue i would go for the 12. Because who doesn't like the newest gadget if money isn't an issue? :)

Oh and the more warm screen of course. There is a thread here on macrumors about it as well.

That’s your opinion. I prefer the flat edges. Even though it feels a little thicker than a curved phone would, I think it looks nicer and is easier to grip.

Funny you mention not wanting to go back to a previous design when flat edges were newer and then Apple went back to curved edges like in the original iPhone. Don’t worry, though. Eventually Apple will try something “new” and put curved edges on their phones again. And sometime after that we’ll get flat edges again.

Always buy the latest & greatest if you can stretch to it.

The 12 Pro is superior in every way. Slap either in a case and they feel the same.

No square edges and no round edges for you then hit something different. What would that be?

Coming from a XS, I first tried a 12 Pro and found it to be just barely too big for comfort, especially with a case on. I wasn't expecting the flat edges to make the phone more difficult to hold, but they did.

Then I tried a 12 Mini and I couldn't get used to the smaller screen size. Battery life was ok but not really an improvement from the XS.

So I found a mint condition 11 Pro with AppleCare+ for $700 that can easily last the next couple years and maybe Apple will go back to a curved design by then.

Bought a certified refurbished 11 pro Max 64gb from Best buy geek squad for $840. Looked mint with 100% battery life but i noticed a tiny spec of dust under the display. Sent it to Apple and they're mailing me a brand new 11 pro max.

I can't justify spending over $1000 on a phone so buying last years is always a good alternative. Especially since the 12 pro isn't much of an upgrade over the 11 pro.

Where did you get it from?

Get what suits you, as you simply cannot go wrong between the 11 Pro and 12 Pro series of iPhones.

Personally very happy with my 11 Pro Max, the incredible battery life alone makes me nervous to switch to anything with a smaller battery, what I want is a true upgrade in battery life in my next iPhone, I have been far too spoilt with the 11 PM battery and want even more :D I hope the 13 Pro Max has a 4100mAh battery at the very least if not the same battery size as the 11 Pro Max.

There is literally no point in 5G for me right now as the 5G coverage here in South Africa is very limited, I have 2 5G phones with me and not seeing a single bit of 5G right now in my area.

EDIT:
Have a look at this battery test, you are still getting the best battery life of any iPhone with the 11 Pro Max:

I think it depends on the price of the 11 Pro, but I would agree with your decision to go with the 11 Pro for two or three years while 5G matures and battery life improves. I'm starting to get used to owning the last of a generation. To me, it feels the most stable.

Unless the deal offered is a massive difference, I’d always go for the newer device.
