Anyone did T-mobile trade in?

I am thinking about doing a t-mobile trade in and since they are giving credit for a sprint iphone 5s to use towards a new phone, I was thinking about picking one up from craigslist for about $150 and trading it in. Lets suppose the owner of the iphone 5s reports it as lost or stolen, will it ever come back to me?

I did a trade in with a Unlocked iPhone 5s (32gb). Sorry wish I could help with a Sprint version.
