Just curious if anyone else here has done an ATA Secure Erase on a 2015 MBP by Linux (since OS X *does not* support ATA Secure Erase, at least not easily). This thread has some more information but I want to make sure I'm not going to brick my SSD.

I have a 2015 MBP with the SSD model SM0512G (presumably Samsung) still running 10.11 and FIleVault encrypted and after 2 years it's starting to get slow so I figure I might as well do a clean install to 10.14. Now when I reinstall my desktops I boot into a Linux live USB and do an ATA Secure Erase by hdparm and with Intel SSD's I've never bricked anything, and never lost power when doing so.

I briefly tested with a Ubuntu Live USB and sleep mode works and when I unsleep the hdparm says the SSD is "unfrozen", which is good.

Thanks.
