Is anyone else disappointed with iOS 16’s features? I downloaded the beta yesterday, and I’m kind of underwhelmed. The only big feature being the Lock Screen, and they removed dark mode wallpapers from iPhone. iPadOS 16 is boring if you don’t have an M1 iPad.

edit: honestly I take it back after reading all the comments. And also because Nintendo controllers work now :)

Well yes, it's different for different people. Different devices.

Nope, I’m not disappointed. The features iOS 16 brought were things we needed to make it even more of a complete OS. I’m not expecting some huge makeover every major release. With that, you can expect a complete **** show.

I’m glad this iOS 16 Beta 1 is as stable as it is. Most times, we are in a hurry for Beta 2, but so far, all is well.

OP,

What in the world are you expecting? Tech has evolved a lot and there comes a point where refinement is the order of the day, because the hardware is moving faster than the software. After all, we are talking about a phone.

I think a lot of people want to be entertained by Apple with abilities just so can they say my phone can do this, that, and the other.

I’m disappointed there weren’t LESS features so they could continue focusing on cleaning up iOS 15. I still have Podcast settings reset every few days, and Xcode previews refuse to be deleted or stay put in the app drawer.

Even Stage Mode ian't thrilling, since only Apple apps work with it (which is expected, of course).

New bookmark sync is still messed up for me (started with 15.4).

I'm just frustrated that many of the new UI features are only available on the absolute newest devices, which results in different experiences on different generations of devices. It's a support nightmare.

I also don't understand why the lock screen widgets on my jailbroken iPhone 4 were more sophisticated than what Apple just implemented iOS 16. I think the name was Intelliscreen. I had message notification counts as well as a customizable scrollable calendar agenda on my lock screen. I also had a hack to increase the number of icons on the screen. Yeah, that was what, iOS 5?

I still want a better Files app. Instead, they gave me Stage Manager, a new take on an antiquated paradigm I intentionally left behind on desktops and laptops.

I don’t need overlapping windows. That’s why I came to the iPad. I want a full screen app. If I do use my MacBook Pro, I have all apps in full screen mode. It greatly increases focus and productivity.

They wasted a whole year designing a system that takes away a full third of the app’s viewing real estate to give it to a recents and the dock, which conveniently disappear if you just use iPadOS and iOS the way it was designed instead of catering to 14 year olds who could have spent the same amount of money on a laptop instead of trying to force a tablet to be a laptop…..which is like trying to force a a duck to be a cup of coffee.

This is a very odd take on things. Clearly if you don’t want to use stage manager, then don’t use it lol. You have to intentionally enable it so it’s not like you’re being forced to use it.

I personally never use any app full screen on my Mac. Seems like a complete waste, but to each their own.

Yes, I get that I don’t have to use it. No one does. But they wasted a whole year designing and implementing it along with a Weather app that is nothing more than the iPhone app. They’ve had 12 years and this is it? It has multiple superior competitors, but we gotta criticize Apple and complain. Like the calculator. As if you couldn’t spend a minute to download a calculator app. God forbid you waste 5 minutes downloading a better calculator than the iPhone calculator, which I did 14 years ago.

A whole year dedicated to “Let’s reduce the app screen real estate by 35% so we can shut up a large group of idiots”. How do you enable Stage Manager? Open Control Center, tap to enable. Close Control Center. Lose 35% screen real estate. “YAY! Now, I can attach my portable table to a non portable monitor……the low end MacBook Pro is the same price. With two USB-C ports. But it doesn’t have 5G and a touch screen. But now it has a half assed ”Desktop Experience”. As if I wanted that on a tablet.

All of this wasted effort when the Files app is still severely unfinished going on half a decade, still no Wallet on the iPad, still waiting on a Mail overhaul to even attempt to copy Outlook (which is so far superior at this point Apple should just not bother), and why does the iPhone get Lock Screen customization but not iPad?

Priorities are bizarre for the iPad. I just don’t see why people are trying to turn a portable tablet into a desktop.

They spent 12 months. For what? Who is pluggin an iPad into an external monitor and then leaving 30 minutes later for a coffee down at the Starbucks? 12 months.

See above. Plus, there’s a charging port on the Magic Keyboard, for those of us who want to take 14 hours to charge an iPad.

And I still can’t use Instagram without it looking like a a TikTok on YouTube.
