Every now and then I’ll tap on a URL and instead of opening up in a safari tab it opens in slide over. I notice this especially if I’m in split view mode with Twitter or some other app paired with Safari. If you swipe right on the slide over it’s gone from the screen but is still there. Sometimes in multitasking mode it shows up as another instance of Safari other times it doesn’t. And other times if I go into multitasking mode and swipe up to get rid of my Safari split view instance when I open Safari again it only brings up the item that launched as a slide over, not all the tabs I had open in my split view instance.

Honestly I think the whole slide over concept needs work. It’s too easy to inadvertently trigger it and not so clear how to get rid of it. Having to swipe up and then swipe up again to dismiss the app is clunky. I’m curious how many people even use it. It seems like something that would be triggered more by accident that intentionally used. I kind of wish Apple would do away with it or come up with a better implementation.
