Hi!
I bought several Homepods during last year’s Black Friday sales, and they worked flawlessly through the holidays - up until the day when Apple announced they would stop selling the bigger HomePods.

Now when I try to connect, the connection times out - trying to play a song on my iPhone/iPad, it goes to Apple Music, but then when I play, the music comes out of my device, not the HomePod. Something isn’t working like it used to. Updated the HomePods to 14.5 and this issue still remains unresolved.

Anyone else?

I don't have time to really get all up in this BUT, they aren't broken. That's the 1st thing I can tell you.

Try unpair (not BT pariing, but Stereo Unpair), after that try a Reset Homepod(s). Paired or Unpaired.

There are some really, really, (and I mean really) awesome new features with Big Sur 11.3 and with the whole switching with Music.

Like for instsance you can open Music and control the HomePods, and then just quick and relaunch the app at WILL and the music is effortlessly maintained on the Homepods.

With the iPhone take your time and switch from iPhone to HomePod (but after you did the unpair/resets).

Laters...

Thanks for your response. They ARE broken. You don’t believe me, but I tried everything you mentioned, since I am tech savvy like you.

Unfortunately I can’t upgrade my macs to Big Sur because they break compatibility with the VPN setup & software I am working with for work.

I was apprehensive before posting my issue on Macrumors forums because the forums always attract the same condescending gaslighting tech-snobs who think they know everything and have preconceived notions that everyone who isn’t them is a tech idiot. Turns out I was right.

That said, FACT: THE BIG HOMEPODS *ARE* BROKEN, EVEN AFTER A FACTORY RESET.

I believe Apple broke the functionality of the big HomePods with 14.5 - it‘s an issue on Apple’s end.

The only reason I said they're not broke is because I have updated mine about seven times. And every time I always got worried that they were broke and that I would have to take them back or call Apple and every time I got them to work eventually I just didn't want you to worry.

How the hell was I condescending? I mean here is a different answer:

Hi, I am going to assume you know everything and are super tech savvy. So in that case, you don't need any of my help. Good day soldier...

I don't sub to Apple Music. But I do own 9 OGs and they're fine so far under 14.5 - In the sense that they're responsive, I can airplay to them from my iPhone or AppleTV, and if I tap the top, they'll play music.

Out of curiosity, I assume yours all have connectivity still (They respond to Hey Siri, play when touched etc?)
