Running latest OS on my gen 1 ultra. Initially I hated the loss of the dock month ago when the release the preview build and YouTubers were talking about the os changes. but using this update more and I must say it’s awesome (just needs 100% off line maps).

1). Snoopy: man I’m going through a trying period in my personal life and damn this snoopy watch face is amazing. Always brings a smile to me. It’s been a week and I rarely see the same animation. I hope they update the animation yearly.

2). Movable icons on the home app area. This was a tip I read here and now my most used apps are at the top and to the center screen. It’s a better dock actually. I love this and it’s more usable the limited number of apps on the doc.

3). Swiping up for the widgets is very intuitive. I understand why they remove the control center function to the button now. It’s very intuitive to swipe from the watch face and check your message widget or timers, etc…. I can now run watch face with no widgets since any timer I have running I can swipe from the bottom and check the time. Same with songs currently playing. The widget for that is active. Before I would need to go to my dock but again it’s no needed and I prefer using a clean watch faces sometimes.

4). Battery is still excellent. I use my watch on cellular and it last well beyond 15 hours easily. Initially the first day after I updated, my battery life was awful dead by noon but one update and it’s fine now back to normal.

5) interface and widgets are beautiful! Very well designed and made my watch feel new and fresh

Nice job Apple!!!

Oh btw Siri still sucks. How in the hell is the software getting worst. My series 5 handled request better. I said 8 minutes timer now 100 minutes WTH.

Can you explain what you mean by #2 and what the "home app area" is? I'm not a fan of OS 10, but trying to figure out what I can do to make the best of it.

Swipe up to show the app tiles Press the crown, touch and hold to edit, drag icons the top of the list.

I agree I really like the new UX and the look and feel. The recents dock makes sense to me.

I don't mind the new update. Muscle memory from old use habits still gets me once a day or more but, that will lessen as time goes on. Many around here don't seem to like change unless it meets their preconceived ideas of what Apple should have done.

Good post.

Siri on the Series 9 finally works for the simple tasks like turning on lights and setting timers. Very happy with Siri right now. The one thing that isn’t working for me is the raise to speak function. I have had zero successful results.

I also realized why Apple changed the swipe up/crown scroll for the Smart Stack. I think it was motivated by the desire to reduce the number of complications on various watch faces. As you say, the Snoopy face is great but it wouldn’t be very usable with no complications on pre-WatchOS 10.

So I’m all in on the new UI. I get why major changes to an existing UI can be disconcerting but I think Apple is thinking long term with these changes. I also suspect that they have a future feature in mind for swipe left/right so they removed that so users will get used to the change.

I needed to get used to some changes (stack, control centre), but I do agree it is better now than it was before. However, I very much dislike the way watch faces are switched or night mode is enabled on the Ultra with the new OS. It used to be very easy to switch watch faces, now it takes a long press before you can switch a face. I never had a problem of having the "wrong" face on my watch and likes easily switching depending on circumstances.
The automatic night mode is not nice to use for every day use, especially when your eyes are ageing (I'm 51, still without reading glasses). It is often not light enough, so you need to use the regular face. If you however do want to change to night mode, it takes a lot of effort by going to the watch face design screen and change it over there. I loved the way you could change the screen by the turn of a button on OS9. Really missing this feature (not a bug)

Many around here don't seem to like change unless it meets their preconceived ideas of what Apple should have done.

Most of the complaints I’ve seen are not about what “Apple should have done” but what Apple should not have done! 😁

Many watch wearers feel that many of the changes have been a major step backwards in functionality and usability. They make a good point that — if Apple was going to do an overhaul that disrupted established habits — they should have at least have given users an option to restore swiping — left-right to alternative faces and up for the Control Center.

Hard to disagree with a perspective that says give users the choice!

Likes:
- Snoopy face, really lovely
- SmartStack: essential if you use a face without complications
- no more accidental face changes
- cycling improvements

Dislikes:
- shorter battery life (my impression)
- new dock: I liked the hexagon shape better and the ability to zoom in/out on dock

I'm pretty happy with it. Looking forward to the double-tap function coming next month.
+1

Took me some days to reprogram my muscle memory, but now love the changes.
Can't wait for the double tap, think this can be a game changer.

Ya you know I’ve notice battery life took a hit. I hope a software update will fix that.

I like the look of the new features but I'm not upgrading until the battery life issue is sorted. Maybe that means I need to stick with WatchOS9 until I replace my watch. That would be disappointing but I'm happy with a solid 24 hours right now and don't want to lose that. Not even for Snoopy.

Just a data point: I ran OS10 on an S8 with Snoopy and AOD for a week and saw no decrease in battery life. I traded in the S8 for an S9, which I've now had for over a week. I charge the watch each morning and then wear it all day and night. Each morning my battery is between 45-55% depending on how much I interact with the watch. The only exception was Day 1 when I was setting up the watch, there was some quick battery drain.

Thanks

It is missing miles walked on a weekly basis, which is a target for me and was available in prior OS. the sunrise/sunset times are still blank. I don't see any improvements. Very disappointed in the new OS.

My Series 9 Apple watch was at 45% this morning when I put it on the charger after 24-hours of use (screen off during sleep). I'd forgotten how much better a new battery is than the 81% health of the battery in my Series 7.

Hold on, are you saying to you could get 48 hours of battery life with S9? With AOD on? Cellular? That is seriously impressive. Even my Ultra 2 can hardly do that.

After 5.5 hours since I put on the watch, I'm down to 85%. That means at this rate I'm good for about 36 hours. Of course over the rest of the day, I'm likely to use higher and lower amounts. Right now Battery Grapher estimates about 34 hours average battery life. Most days I put in a couple of miles walking but probably not today. Other than that, I don't stress the battery too much. I do have AOD on with max brightness. I generally don't listen to much music or podcasts when I walk. Cellular doesn't get used much since I'm usually near my iPhone or in a place with a known WiFi network.
