I saw the graphite AW today and I swear in certain light it looks silver.

Black SS was a classy color and I still have 2 incidents of accidental damage. I wonder if I mess uo my watch in 2022 will they still have AW S5 for A/C+ replacements or will they give you an S6 version?

I certainly do. It has such a seamless design that blends in with the display so well, arguably better than any other version Apple has made. It was also the closest match to my Space Gray iPhone X at the time! 😅

The neutral tone has also made it less tedious in deciding what kind of band to pair it with. I currently bounce between the included Milanese Loop and a white Sport Loop, but would have little issue exploring more vibrant options if I wanted to. When I previously had a Gold Series 2, it was almost more of a "thought-provoking" process of choosing my next band.

I am currently wearing a Series 4, so I remain a little worried that the finish will not make its way back in time before I decide to upgrade. Hopefully it is just a temporary disappearance like it has been for the Ceramic Edition.

Lighting conditions can affect any Apple Watch with the stainless finish, although I definitely don’t think the graphite looks like ‘silver’, it really does have a different shimmer to it depending on the ambient lighting. The same thing applies to the black stainless, in darker conditions, it has more of a mild tone of a shaded gray, but under brighter lighting conditions, it has a high-gloss ‘wet’ black look.

I am not a fan of the new Graphite color. It's dull. The Black SS AW was / is to me the sexiest.

I wonder if Cook's "orientation" is to blame for explosion in colors and fragmentation of the entire Apple line.

When Silver and Black was the standard I was happier. Guess I'm getting prematurely old in my mid 30's.

That wet black look is awesome. It used a DLC process for the coating which is so scratch and resistant I know people in rugged trades which still have a mint like condition Black SS AW even when wearing the watch to work.

Waiting to see how scratch resistant is the new Graphite but it's way too light in shade for my liking. Deeper richer black is way classier imo.

This was the sole reason I decided not to upgrade from my ’wet’ black SS S4. I’ll wait until next year otherwise I’ll look for last years S5 instead.

Much prefer the graphite here. Had a SBSS S3 since launch and was getting quite bored of the all in one body/screen look. I prefer the subtle tonal changes of the graphite and would be disappointed if they removed it again.

Pics or it didn't happen. Side by side Graphite vs S5 Space Black / Black SS (w/e they called the color).

Let the PEOPLE decide.

To give you a little homework Mr. @Richard Peters

SBSS is still available, just +$600 for Hermes version + time to find SB Milanese Loop from previous generation, while they are still sold:)

Slightly unusual reply but I’ll bite.

Pics or what didn’t happen?! My opinion? Because that’s all I’m giving.

How are photos going to help the PEOPLE decide my opinion...?

I posted side-by-side photos of the two when I first got it. You’re welcome to go find that thread if you wish.

Additionally, I would always recommend anyone see whatever finish they’re interested in for real, if they can, because photos can only do so much.

I’m happy for you that you prefer SB. So from that perspective it is a shame it’s not currently available (well, outside of Hermes) as I’d be frustrated too if I was in that position.

Have both and first I thought SB is better but after a few days i really prefer the graphite. Sometimes it's dark silver and sometimes it looks like SB.

How has it been holding up against scratches thus far?

A bit disappointing that Apple migrated the black stainless to the Hermès line, but from a marketing standpoint, the Hermès line needed a refresh with a different casing. It’s just unfortunate they don’t offer it in the stainless anymore (And likely won’t again in the future), but then again, I do think the graphite looks really nice, even though I think it’s a little too comparative to the regular stainless for my preferences.

Personally, I would like to see some type of ‘brushed matte black stainless‘ with DLC, that would be worth a day one pre-order for me.

I also think the Space Black Stainless was a much better color than the graphite. I picked up a graphite on launch day and ended up returning it as I just didn't care for the color. Not sure why Apple made this change as they should have just added it to the lineup and left Space Black as an option to buy as well.

Not really. I used to love space black when it was first announced but it was such a dark colour that it didn’t really have that sort of “flashiness”, for lack of a better word, that you’d see with the silver or gold models. It was a neither here nor there colour, and I suppose if you wanted a more subtle and reserved colour it would be the opposite, in that it’s a preferred finish. For me though I like my watches to have some shine as opposed to being muted, so the graphite is a welcome change.

however as some posters mentioned, they like that “wet black” look, and it is certainly unique.

Graphite though looks a lot more refined and to me, high end, despite essentially having the same stainless steel material, as it has the shine that I never felt I got with space black (and the shine is something I prefer)

i have a silver stainless steel model but in the future when I upgrade, I’ll be looking to get the graphite colour

I have all 3 colors:
S0: Silver
S4: Black
S6: Graphite

Yes, I miss black and would have preferred black over graphite, especially considering that I have the black Link Bracelet.

For some reason the single tour SS SB 44mm will not show up when i go to the apple store apple watch product page. I have to google search this to get to this page.

Does this happen for anyone else.

Good photos. That second photo definitely almost looks exactly like the regular 316L stainless, but the lighting completely changes the appeal. Ultimately, I think it’s too much of a close comparison for me the graphite isn’t a major difference away from the regular stainless.

I had the silver SS for a couple of days and you can see a difference. I returned the silver because it was too shiny
