I see that sometimes when I put my Touch into the dock. I think that it's there so that if you have the Touch docked and use the Universal Remote to control the volume, it gives you visual feedback of the volume change (not sure why you'd need that though). For some reason it seems to show up at other times too.

That icon appeared randomly on my iPod Touch for about 2 seconds before it disappeared yesterday as I was checking out an app and I was wondering how it happened. I haven't been able to get it back on the screen, though.

Does anyone know if this is another way to control the iPod Touch's volume? If so, how can we manually access it?

and boom, randmly poped up out of nowhere

That's what happens when you +/- volume on iPhone though.

You get that when you use the Apple Remote with the device. It's just the Mac OS volume control, nothing exciting. It also comes up with a few minor bugs in the firmware, as it always has.
