Anyone else selling their 3GS to pay for their next iphone?

i bought my 3gs last july. i'm planning on using my warranty to get a replacement (mine has an overly sensitive ringer button and the battery is getting bad) one that looks brand new. i can easily sell it on ebay for at least $400. assuming the new iphone costs the same, and that i would have to pay $400 for a new iphone since i'm still in contract, i would pretty much get a new iphone for little to nothing. just wondering if anyone did that last year..

Sold my 32gb 3GS for $500, my 16gb 3G for $200, and am in the process of selling my partially-fault 8gb for $100

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/7E18)

I'm going to keep my 3GS as a back-up device, as I won't be insuring the new iPhone when I get it.

I sold my 3GS with the intention of buying the new 4G with the money but I ended up spending that money on a new iPad yesterday lol so now I'm looking at buying either an old 2G or 3G iPhone to tide me over for a few months until I can get some money together to buy the 4G

I'm buying the new iPhone no matter what and then selling my 3gs after I get it and verify that it's not packed with bugs (unlikely). It's worth the $100 or so I will lose to wait and verify that it's worth it to me before I sell my 3gs. Ask me this question a couple years ago and I might have a different answer, but that's the beauty of getting older....I guess.

Have a 3G. Hanging onto it as an iPod touch. Gonna keep 3.1.3 on it for a while. Not jailbroken, but might after I get the 4th Gen.

I am selling mine and my wife's phones for the new ones, she better not get this one stolen on the first damn day or I am gonna be so pissed off!

Yes. Did that last year. I recently checked the price of the 3Gs iPhones on eBay and they don't look like they are going for much... :-(

As the date gets closer, the market begins to flood with iPhones, which can cause a drop in prices since there are so many of them. The best time to sell is now!!

I was entertaining the idea of doing the same thing. The resale value of Apple products bewilders me. Especially for the iPhones, where even if people are getting service off contract, AT&T still isn't passing down the savings from not having subsidized your phone.

I sold my backup 3G unlocked for $300 on craigslist last week. eBay and Paypal will rape you in fees.

I have a 3GS also I might keep as a backup.

Once the unlock comes out for 3.1.3 next week. Prices will drop a lot more I assume

I'm eligble for a full upgrade in June anyways. So I'm only paying the $200 upgrade price

Just sold mine the past weekend for £401 ($589) incl shipping. Too bad ebay/paypal are gonna rape me

I was going to sell it to help pay for my next iPhone, but it broke last week (screen is just white and can't be used at all—no touch response), so it looks like I'm getting the next iPhone anyways.

Not sure if I will sell my 3GS or give it to my wife. If she is going to take full advantage of the $30 iPhone data plan, then I will give it to her. If not, I will sell it. How much do you think I can get for a roughed up 16GB 3GS after the next generation iPhone is released? No major damage other than a hairline near the charging port, just scuffed and nicked up, works perfectly.

Didn't upgrade to 3GS from 3G as felt the money V technological leap wasn't worth it. But will be putting my factory unlocked jailbroken 3G on Ebay to get the new one. Not sure what it will fetch mind you!

I think most owners of the 3G will be selling theirs to help offset the cost of the new iPhone or at the very least make a bit of money if that's possible.
