I love how supposedly the software was all ready to roll long before launch! And now here we are over 2 months later and still nothing! I haven't even heard any updates!!!

So what is your opinion? Is anything coming? How soon? how much will it cost? or even BETTER if apple is planning on releasing their own software! (free!?) This would explain why the others haven't been released yet!

i want a gps app, but:
1. its against the SDK terms and conditions (or whatever its called)
2. the SDK has a non disclosure agreement so devs are not supposed to say anything about their apps

release date and cost are impossible to predict. rumours are apple are developing their own gps app, but i doubt its free, unless its part of gmaps

I really don't care about turn by turn directions. All I would like to see is the blue indicator showing your heading and onboard maps. I was in an area the other day with no cell covergae and google maps would not display. Its kind of pointless having a GPS that has no maps built in. Other than that, I am happy.

I also hope that someone develops downloadable gps maps for the Iphone. Turn by turn would be nice but not required. I am about to spend quite a bit of time in the UAE and their data roaming charges to access google maps are outrageous.

How come there hasnt been a GPS app jailbreak either

Another clear cut reason to have a real standalone GPS with built in maps.

It was never "all ready to roll" except in the minds of naive bloggers and so-called news sites.

I think it's mostly likely that AT&T and/or TeleNav will release the first iPhone navigation app.

Cost will be the usual. $10 a month or $150 to buy.
