I experienced a weird bug with my AirTag today.

I had my keys in my back pocket and the iPhone in the front on the same side. A few minutes later I got the “unknown AirTag” NFC notification on the lockscreen. So weird that my own AirTag couldn’t be identified.

Anyone else experienced this issue?

that's not the "unknown airtag" notification.

they act as a NFC tag that brings up a web page if the phone is held close, that's what you're seeing. If you've reported a tag as lost, then the message you specified would appear on that web page.

it's the same thing that a restaurant could use to give you a place to tap to bring up their menu. it's kinda like a QR code that works over wireless instead of using the camera.

I'm actually surprised it works that far away, the spec says within 1 1/2 inches (4cm). But to get my phone to read an air tag like that (or other NFC tags), they normally have to be touching.

I wish apple would add a "anonymous iMessage/FaceTime" to that page that would give you a link to contact the owner, without revealing either persons contact info to the other. that way someone could tell you they found your thing long before you've even realized it's missing. As it is now, until you report an item lost, that page is pretty useless. Unless you happen to have the owner in your contacts, and you do a search by the last 4 of the phone number.

This happened to me with an Airtag that I recently bought. One of them is giving the error that it is registered already w another Apple account…

you should check for any Apple accessories on your person that do not belong to you. You should also look for AirTags in your vicinity as well as ask your friends and family about their accessories. If you own a pair of AirTags, then we recommend you ensure that they are not malfunctioning by re-pairing them to your device. If your AirTags seem to be the culprit and are still detected as ‘Unknown accessory’ then use the last section in this guide to reset your AirTags.

Is there a guide? Thank you!
