I recently purchased a pair of Airpods at the Apple Store in Taipei 101.

Upon opening the packaging I was surprised to find a tiny (1mm) splinter/strip of blue tape on the top of the right Airpod.

I would have taken a photo but I was honestly just too eager to try them out (I opened them in the MRT) and simply cleaned them off. Needless to say they work perfectly. But the thought stuck with me.

What is that blue tape? Did I receive a pair that had been through quality control? Does the presence of this tape indicate Apple’s quality control is not up to par? Is this unique to stores outside the US?

Anyone else ever find residue of blue tape on a brand new Apple product?
