anyone finding call rings very loud on 17.2.1?

I've never had this problem before but when I make facetime calls with my airpods on, the ring is VERY LOUD until the person picks up. Does anyone else have this issue?

The volume buttons don't do anything but when the person picks up or its connecting, then it's back to normal.
