I am on a grandfathered unlimited data plan with an iPhone 4. I tried to download an episode of NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me over 3G today and got the following message:

Item Over 20MB
Connect to a Wi-Fi network or use iTunes on your computer to download "NPR: 07-03-2010 Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!".

Anyone else get this message? Is this expected behavior?

Yep, that's normal.

All iPhones (in all countries) no matter what plan you have are restricted to 20MB for each download over the cellular network.

Hmm? I get it if the file is over 10MB not 20MB odd...

10MB was the original limit on AT&T, but it was changed to 20MB not too long ago.

If you're using AT&T, you might want to seek customer assistance. If not, it's probably your carrier's imposed limit.

Which version of iOS do you have? The limit used to be 10MB but was increased to 20MB some time ago, I think the change was thru an OS update.

The limit is not imposed by the carrier, or in the software.

It seems to be part of the App Store and iTunes.

When you go to download something from either the App Store or iTunes, it checks to see what the current size limit is.

Apple changed the limit from 10MB to 20MB without an update.
