Down south
I’ve been wanting to go back to the non-pro phone, but holding off because of macro photography, which I use a fair amount. I finally went with a max phone with the 15, and it took some getting used to. It has its pros and cons. I was really torn about going with the bigger phone, and honestly I think I would’ve gone to the non-pro last year if it wasn’t for lack of macro photography.

Now with the regular phones having macro, I’m really considering a change back to a normal size, non-pro phone.

Has anyone made the switch? If so, how did it go?

Yes, my hand thanks me for it. It’s not like Apple fits more stuff in the display. You can the same row of icons. They just scale it the display. Of course if you need text to be big I can see how a max would be beneficial.

I do have my text a little larger, and another part of why I went with the max phone was the constant texting struggles with the smaller keys, but the weight gets old. I realize it really isn’t much in the grand scheme of things, but the wrist fatigue is real if you use it for a while.

Have you considered the 16 Plus? It sounds like that may be the better option for you. If you can I’d recommend looking at both the 16 and 16 Plus in store so you can set the text size larger to see which looks better to you.

I’m getting tired of how heavy the Pro devices are. The “extras” that the Pro has over the regular models may be better, but if the device is uncomfortable to hold then what is the point?

Unless the Pro devices get lighter, I’ll be going with a regular model next year. Although I still haven't ruled out going with a regular/non-Pro iPhone this year.

I considered the 15+ last year, and my daughter has one - I just find it’s still cumbersome in the hand, so if I make a change it’s gonna be a drastic one. Lol

My grandkids have SE 3’s, and every time I pick one up I just adore the size of it (heck I still like the Touch ID), but there are too many features I’d miss making quite that drastic of a change. I feel like the regular size phone would be a nice compromise.

I’m still very much on the fence. I really don’t want to buy and return. It’s just so hard to get a real feel for it with it strapped down in the Apple Store.

Got it. Well maybe it’s a weigh issue like someone said so a plus model may help. Or maybe even the side? Maybe a different case may help?

That’s something I noticed when I want xs max to 12 pro max. Same size but the sides were killing me. It was a pain, and up to this point I’ve always had large phones. This started my small phone journey.

I think it’s a combination of both. I use the Loopy cases, so it does give me a good grip on the phone, especially with the max size. I think the size/weight is just getting old, although I know this is it - I’ll never go bigger, so I have to be SURE I am happy with the smaller phone since it seems the max phones are just getting larger and heavier.

I also went from a stainless to an aluminum watch this year. I am just over all the heavy gadgets.

I went ahead and ordered a non-pro 16 to try for a week. Worst case I’ll have to return it.

120hz is nice but it's not a must have. I can see that the scrolling on 60hz is a bit less smooth than on 120hz, but before I knew that there was a difference I never felt like missing out on something.
I am happy with the 16, I would only upgrade to the pro because of the camera and 120hz 4k video stuff if I needed that.
