Hi,

I'm interested in the experiences of anyone who has gone from a 13" 2012 MBA Ultimate (2GHZ/4GB/256GB) to any of the 2012s i5 or i7, and how has the 2012 system been in terms of performance, battery, fans and heat.

I use my MBA all day at work, using Office apps, Mail, Terminal. Plus I used Aperture quite a lot etc and don't suffer from noisy fans or any 'silliness' ;-)

I'm looking at either getting a i5 13" with the same 4GB/256GB spec or pumping it up to the i7 with 8GB. But I'm concerned by the i7's possible extra heat / fan usage and generally whether the i7 would be overkill.

I find the 2010 a great machine and still is.

Thanks.

you mean 2010 -> 2012 right?

same screen
much faster processor
more ram/ssd/cpu for the same or sl less cost than before
faster sad
usb3/thunderbolt
facetime camera 720p
30-60min more battery life
slightly warmer
not much diff between i5/i7 in some benchmarks

I have the 2010 13 UMBA with Samsung display and will keep it, performs too well to upgrade, I'm not CPU-limited as all for the things I use it for.

i went from last year's model to this years

the biggest change is the 8gb (great for running a windows virtual machine) and the graphics actually dont suck if you happen to like a game or two on the road.
