I have had the 12 pro for a few days now and already for a case and screen protector. My friend just got the max and it’s really not that big in hand. I’m wondering if I should swap them out. Anyone else done or considered this?

I did just that. Gave my son the 12 Pro and got myself the 12 Pro Max. I had an XS Max previously and after using the 12 Pro for a few days I missed the larger screen. My son had an iPhone X and the swap to the 12 Pro for him was an upgrade but also the size he was most comfortable with.

Yeah I had a 7plus then the X; now the 12 pro. Just wondering if the size will become a burden later on.

I will admit I was on the fence on whether to keep the 12 Pro. It is also a great size and it's not like iOS has been tailored for any different experience on the larger sized phones. But for me, and my lifestyle, the 12 Pro Max won out. Having been using the plus size phones for a few years it made the decision easier for me. It won't help your decision but both are good choices so it's a tough choice. First world problems I know.

How is carrying it? That’s the only concern I have. Is it that much bigger in the pocket

I’ve always had the plus size phones but when I got the 12 pro max I decided it was just a little bit too big and heavy so I went down to a pro and I’m very happy with it. It’s so easy to carry around

Yes that’s what I have now. Just debating on getting the max instead.

No issue with carrying it. On jeans, it goes in back pocket. On dockers, it goes in front. I even have a Popsocket on it. No issue.

When I sit and have jeans, I pull it out and leave it on table or seat. With dockers, no need to pull out.

I moved from the 12 pro to the 12 pro max, and it was absolutely the right decision for me. The max really feels a manageable size, and the battery life far superior over the 12 pro.

Following this thread.... finally getting ready to upgrade from my 7+ but undecided between 12 Pro and Pro Max. The 12 Pro Max is a bit bigger than the 7+ but so much heavier. I'm a guy so I carry my phone usually in my front jeans pocket, the 7+ is still reasonably comfortable. My main motivation for the Max is the bigger battery.

I think if you Need better battery life and slightly better camera and bigger Size I say go for it...battery life is my main want for a phone and I like the biggest possible phone.

The 12 Pro Max is bigger and heavier than the 12 Pro, but for me the benefits of the larger screen, better battery life and marginally better camera make it my preference. It still easily can be slipped into the back pockets on my jeans, and I could put it in a front pocket I guess. I don't wear particularly tight fitting trousers. But most days I wear a sport jacket or suit and slip it in a breast pocket. I'm really not a fan of carrying phones in trouser pockets. As with most things like this, it is a purely personal preference and what works for me may not work for others. It is only slightly bigger than the XS Max it replaces so I didn't really go through any adjustment for the new phone. Having had the 12 Pro for a couple of weeks first, which is now my son's phone, I will say both are great and you really can't go wrong choosing either.

Just get a new battery for the 7+. It's still a great phone, runs iOS 14 fine, and is thin and light compared to the Max.

$40 for new battery vs $1500+ for Max? Not a hard call.

Plus touch ID is superior to face ID, especially in pandemic times, the notch on the Max is horribly ugly and you'll never forget about it, and the borders on the 7+ serve a useful function that the newer phones actually have to replicate for some features, cutting down on their screen space.

That is what I did last year and I agree the 7+ is still a nice phone. The camera is a bit of a letdown however when I compare it to my wife's 11 Pro Max. But I had the 7+ for 4 years now so the 'want a new toy' factor also comes in...

Lots of youtubers have said the camera is basically identical and not noticeable.

I don’t wear tight pants really but carry other things in my pockets, keys, knife, multi tool go in the right pocket. Wallet and light is left

I hear you. Trouble with new iphone as new toy is that you pretty quickly discover you just dropped $1500 on something that essentially does the same thing that your current phone does. You'll still be using the same 4 or 5 apps most of the time. They don't work any different. The whole face ID/lack of home button experience makes for a questionable upgrade, too. You get sick of "swiping up" pretty quickly.

As for the camera, every year apple and others tout the cameras on their phones. They're okay, but they're no DSLR or mirrorless dedicated units. My most satisfying pics come from dedicated cameras with quality lenses.

I agree with everything you said in your post. I'm really thinking of going from the iPhone 12 Pro to an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I had an iPhone 11 Pro Max and before that an iPhone 8 Plus. For me the battery life of the iPhone 12 Pro just isn't cutting it.

I typically where dress pants at work, but no jacket. For me carrying a phone in my front pocket hasn't been a problem. For jeans which I typically where when I'm not a work, I solved the problem by buying some fabric at a local fabric store and then having a tailor increase the length of the front pockets by 2 inches (5.08 cm). The cost was not prohibitive.

As KennethS says, a lot is personal preference and what may work for one person will not necessarily work for someone else.

Why did you have to say that? The biggest reason I have been holding on to my 7+ is the home button / touch ID. Everybody tries to convince me that I won't miss it but... I am still on the fence, and here you come :p

Regarding the camera: You are right, having said that, my Nikon and the lenses are collecting dust while I have my phone always on me. And when I see the shots the rest of my family gets with their 11 and 11 Pro max respectively, there clearly has been an improvement over the years. Sometimes I wonder if my camera is actually getting worse - or is this a little IOS 'feature' to persuade people to upgrade? 😏

I have both in hand right now and I'm kinda leaning on returning the PM. Holding it wise feels fine. But the footprint of it is kinda annoying. For example, it barely even fits in my front pocket and makes it kinda awkward to walk normally. I really do enjoy the size of the Pro. I'll be using them both for a few weeks to make sure which one I want to keep.
