I have a 2.33 15" MBP and was looking around and found out that Western Digital, Hitachi, & Samsung all make a 250GB 5400rpm HD that will work in a MB/MBP. Anyone have one? Or any HD above 200GB? The specs I'm looking at are:

-250GB+ HD
-2.5" form factor
-5400 or 7200rpm
-SATA (150 or 3)
-8MB cache

Newegg has these drives for ~$175ea. The WD has pretty high reviews. Just curious, as I prepare for a full upgrade to Leopard and run a good sized partition for Vista Ultimate.

i have a Hitachi 250gb hhd in my 2.16gHz MB 3gb ram
the Model: HTS542525K9A300 bought here in Tokyo
Great drive with tons of space for encoding movies:D

I have the 250 GB Western Digital 5400 RPM in my MacBook 2.16. Great drive, very fast, and (obviously) huge.

The Samsung (pls see sig) is in my MBP since almost two months and it's fast, silent and working flawlessly. Be sure to get the latest firmware. One benefit: The left palm rest is cooler now (than with the original Fujitsu 120GB).

AJA KONA System Test (256 MB file size):
55-58 MB/s read/write

I would look for a drive with a 16MB cache unless you just really really need the additional space. I know that the drive in my MacBook has a 16MB cache so I would assume that all the drives in the MacBooks and MacBook Pros have the same.

I picked up the 250GB WD about 3 weeks ago for $159 + 6 shipping from Amazon. Works great, and is rather speedy.:D

I got the samsung HM250JI. So far so good. I had it already for 5 weeks or so, works great (besides I got two prohibitivity icons on the first week, may be unrelated). It is quite fast, around 24 MB/s sustained write speed (tested with over the network copy via ftp, with a 2 GB file :-D). Now I put 2 GB of RAM, and the MB flies ! Disk cost 140 €uronen and the RAM 63 €uronen bei Reichelt.

I have the WD 250 in my Macbook. I bought an external WD 250 GB Scorpio USB hard drive. Installation was simple. The most difficult part was getting the drive out of the USB enclosure without breaking the enclosure.

I got it several months ago from Best Buy for $180 for the external USB Drive. Lately I have seen it at Best Buy and Circuit City for $150 which is a great deal.

That is what I did, then I put the drive from my macbook into the one in the USB external casing, it's a win win situation, cuz you can use it again and again!

yup, works nicely

i think the most stressful part of installation is pulling the keyboard tray off and then applying enough force to crack it in half just to put it back together, but mine worked out fine

Just put that one in today to replace the original mbp drive, very nice, low heat, fast, silent, but pricey i think at 3, 750 thb installed.

Does anybody know what the WD Passport 320GB (WDME3200N or WDMEB3200TN) or the Simpletech 250GB (FS-U25/250CM) USB2 drives have in them? I saw the WD for $149 and the Simpletech for $115 on Best Buy this morning. Would either of these drives (when removed from the casing of course) fit into a MB? anybody have experience with either of these?

I've got the WD 320GB drive in my MB pro. Very easy to remove and replace. Works great. You can probably find it for less than $149 online.
