First how, how much did the current ipad mini cost at launch,

second, are there any guesses about how much it would cost?

well the current iPad mini costs $329, same as on launch day.

If I had to guess, I would say the retina mini would kick the price up to $349

I wish they would just integrate the 4g option into one model and just do 399 and 50.00 per storage increment.

399.449.499

I don't see how Apple can release a mini with retina screen for a more expensive price than the current mini.

If say we get a 16gb iPad mini w/ retina screen for $399 that's only $9 less than a 64gb Kindle Fire HDX 7" with LTE!

I know the iPad mini is a smaller iPad without any compromise, but these new HDX's have been reviewed very well and are much much cheaper.

$329 16gb iPad mini w/ retina display is what I think they need at the minimum to stay relevant to the vast majority of tablet purchasers.

I know it's not going to happen, but starting at $299 would be just awesome. $329 is such an awkward price point...

But I seriously doubt they'd increase it at all over this year's price, especially given Amazon's ridiculously low prices as noted above. A lot of people looking for a "7 inch class" tablet might find it pretty hard to drop $400 on an iPad mini when the Kindle Fire starts at $139.

I agree if they could hit that magical $299 (~£229 in UK) it would be amazing.

I would be amazed if this happens. Why drop the price when the mini has sold so well! Competition is the only reason we may see a price drop but I think that is more likely just to avoid a price increase and keep a retina at it's current price.

Two models:

iPad Mini with Retina Display
A7 chip
Touch ID
$399

iPad Mini (refresh)
A6 chip
$299

I predict it won't come cheap (do I get a prize)? If anything, an iPad Mini II could be more expensive than the 5th generation full fat iPad, if it is every bit as capable as the bigger model.

I don't buy the argument that the Mini must somehow compete with the likes of the latest Kindle Fire HDX. The gen 1 Mini is in many ways behind the gen 1 Fire HD, yet it sells!

This would be ok for me. I prefer to pay $399 and have the A7 chip than pay the current $329 and have a less powerful chip.
