I just set my new iPad to be held at FedEx Location. Does this happen after they make a delivery attempt or before? Anyone have experience with this? I'm hoping I don't add a business day to my delivery, as they give you that disclaimer when you chose the hold at location option. I just have to work tomorrow and there is a lot of construction going on in my neighborhood and don't want to use the signature waiver and have them leave it on my front porch.

I've used it a couple of times (on golf clubs/equipment) without any issue. If you request them to hold it, they won't make a delivery attempt, which means you'll have to go there (whatever FedEx hub there is in your area) and pick it up yourself. I was extraordinarily antsy about getting my new wedges/putter so the FedEx center was only 15 minutes away from my work so I had them hold it there and I went and picked it up.

Did you also leave work to play a round? :p

Others have posted that Apple has requested FedEX to not allow pickup until at least one delivery attempt is made. I don't know if that's true, but I would certainly find out.

I've had success on products other than Apple, but last year I placed a Hold for Pickup on my iPad 2, and when I got to the depot, Fedex wouldn't give it to me: they said that they had an agreement with Apple that they would make one delivery attempt before they would hold it. I had the option to either come back to the depot after the driver returned or go home and wait. I went home and waited for delivery.

It was frustrating: the truck hadn't left when I got to the depot, but they wouldn't give it to me. My office is a few minutes away from the Fedex facility, and it's much more convenient to get there when they open to get my shipments.

From what I read it wouldn't even allow the option to be selected, or would give you the not eligible message. It allowed me to select the option. If it shows out for delivery on the Truck tomorrow morning. I will just try to get out early after my 10:00 am meeting and work from home the rest of the day.

Yeah, this is right: it says not all shipments are eligible for hold. The person at my FedEx place said that a delivery attempt will be made, and should nobody be home, then we can either call and arrange for pickup Friday night, (my location is open until 7:45pm), or they will reattempt delivery on Saturday.

When I've ordered other products from Apple, I've always had to wait until a delivery attempt was made before FedEx would hold the item for me.

For this it was available first thing in the morning although I didn't have the option to have it held at the FedEx location on the tracking page. I had to call the FedEx center near me, give them the tracking number and tell them to hold it there and I'd pick it up. It hadn't been sent out on the trucks yet so I was a little lucky in getting it before they sent it out for shipment. Kind of a gamble but worth a try to call FedEx now and see if they can put a hold at location on it for you before they load it onto the trucks.

<ahem> no, that would be unprofessional now wouldn't it? I did, however, leave early that day due to "not feeling so good" :p Miraculously, I did feel much better though later on.....probably around the 3rd hole LOL

I just arranged my Ipad to be held at one of their locations via their online mechanism. Within 15 minutes I received a call from a very nice lady saying that I can pick up my package at that location after 9:30AM. She told me to, "enjoy your Ipad"!

I just did the same thing, but by calling 1-800-GO FEDEX. It will be ready for pick up after 0900 tomorrow morning. I asked her about an "arrangement" with Apple mandating at least one delivery attempt and she said that there is no such agreement.

I too chose this option as we are leaving town tomorrow morning and no one will be around to accept delivery until Monday. I called 800 number and they acted like it would not be a problem picking up at my local FedEx distribution center. However, they did say I will receive a call or e-mail (can't remember which) to let me know it has arrived before I can pick it up and that I can't pick it up until after 9:00 AM. We will stop in on our way out of town just after 9:00 AM and hopefully it will be available. I won't be surprised, though, if there is a snafu, and I will just have to SUFFER THROUGH the weekend with my iPad 2.:D. My husband is taking ownership of the iPad 2 when the new iPad arrives and left on a business trip through the weekend. He REALLY wanted to take the iPad 2 with him but I said NOPE just in case. I have the March Madness app live and I'll be darned if I will sit through a soccer showcase weekend without being able to watch NCAA games after I paid for the privilege.;)

It says something to this effect (one delivery attempt) somewhere on Fedex website but it think that is a CYA attempt on their part just in case a package can't be located or erroneously ends up out for delivery. I am hoping for the best but accepting the possibility it will not work out as planned.

I too called to have it held at the local hub. The option was available for me to do the hold online but I wanted to speak to someone to make sure I'd be able to pick it up Friday rather than wait till Saturday. I was told it wouldn't be a problem - guess we'll see!

(The hold notice did show up on my tracking info almost immediately)

I just asked my coworker (he works the front desk at our FedEx location) if these are available for HOLD. He said Apple has in the past made some items non-holdable but he hasn't heard that with this new iPad.. yet. He said they could spring it on him today that there is no holding for this item.

He also said he doesn't like people knowing that you can hold stuff like this because then he would get slammed with us wackos showing up at the station tomorrow. lol

Well, I for one, would be a little surprised and disappointed if Apple "springs" this on Fedex at this point. The option has been made available and still available now. Kinda hard to change that hours before delivery...

I think Apple is typically very well prepared for all scenarios so if the option has been allowed up to this point I'm hoping it sticks.

Yeah that's true except they forego costs of delivery attempts (fuel, time, labor). I wouldn't have done this if I'd had any other alternatives. Would have just waited for delivery - not a wacko - really!:D

If you choose to have it hold at a Fedex Kinkos location, you might have to wait until PM to pick it up. At least, that's from my experience with it.

Cool thing for me is I have tomorrow off so I'm going to go into my station and grab it as soon as it hits the belt. I did have my coworker put it on hold though, so it can be done with this item it looks like.

Kinkos (FedEx Office it's now called) has to wait for the courier to deliver it to them so it all depends when he shows up there.

Little side story.. I've had people track me down on road and ask for their package, and I give it to them. One less delivery I have to make.

I just spoke to fed-ex over the phone- I requested my ipad to be held a couple days ago. This is what they told me:

The most important thing when doing this is to make sure that you choose to have it held at one of the "world shipping centers". These are the distribution centers where all the packages go before loading out on the trucks. If you choose to have it held at a Fedex Office location you might not be able to pick it up until Monday.

Luckily I had called a Fed-ex office location before I made my choice of hold location and they told me which to call. I'm going to pick it up around 9am as well.

Just called to have mine held for personal pickup. Makes me a little nervous that I might run into those issues that were previously mentioned, but I figured that it would be better for me to talk to them than pre-sign and have the possibility of it getting picked up off my porch:eek:

WAS THIS THE RIGHT DECISION!? Haha.
