Has anyone who bought or received their iPhone 4 in the July 2nd batch (or might have got their July 14th batch early) got any of the issues that seem common?

I'm trying to figure out whether these issues are batch related, and if they are in any way resolved/reduced in later batches.

  • death grip / antenna
  • no SIM error
  • proximity sensor
  • green blob on pictures
  • any other problems?

I've made a spreadsheet to record - feel free to fill in your iPhone4 details here

how would you get the 14th batch early? that would be no joke 2 weeks early meaning apple probably hasn't even got to making them.

Go look in the 14th July thread. Absolutely loads of them have been sent out already. They began being 'prepared for shipment' on 2nd July.

wired. they must have thought they had less phones than they really had so moved it up a lot. if it was a "true" july 14 date then it would be a no way.

The fact that July 14th phones are shipping now isn't the point I was after :)

I'm trying to track whether that list of problems are due to being the first batch of phones, or whether the problems are still unfixed in the 2nd and 3rd batch.

Anyone else?

i have a 2nd july batch and i have the antenna issue, its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be though.

... and none of the other issues in the list?
If so, that might suggest that some of those [possibly hardware] problems have been fixed in the July 2nd & 14th batch.

...unless anyone else has other experiences here...

Mine was shipped on July 2nd. Arrived yesterday.

If I hold it at the bottom left corner (death grip) the bars do go down from 5 to 1, but even at 1 bar I can make calls and connect to the 3G internet. With a bumper the bars do not move.

No other issues.

Cool... from a sample of erm... 2 owners of the July 2nd batch, there's only the antenna/signal strength problem.

This bodes well for us not-so-early adopters.
(I'm awaiting my 14th July IP4)

good thread. deciding on whether to do an exchange at Apple because my phone have the green blob problem from the initial shipment.

I got my "July 2" phone on the 6th. So far I have not had any of the issues listed. "death grip" shows no signal loss however I am in a really good signal area.... I do have a bumper on the phone, but tried the death grip several times before putting it on just to see if I had it.

I have also not experienced any proximity sensor issues....
No yellow screen.
No green spot in pics.

Also, compared to my 3GS, the GPS is super fast! So far ( twice ) I have had GPS lock in under 30 seconds! Even indoors!

** I am knocking wood as I type this **

Having the reception issues but the death grip really isn't necessary to see it happen, just put your fingertip over the gap on the bottom left and wait for 30 seconds. The signal drops but isn't lost completely, so it's not really an issue if calls aren't dropped. Even with the griffin case on, my hand will still block some signal but doesn't stop me making calls!

That aside I'm very pleased, no camera spots or yellow dots; just a phone that seems of much better build quality than my previous 3GS, faster, fantastic screen and amazingly I get GPS reception indoors now!

Can't complain at all............yet! :p

Scratch that, had the proximity sensor error just now on a call, speakerphone came on to my surprise thanks to my ear!

Oh no! Is yours a 24 June, 2 July, or 14 July batch?

2nd July Batch, week 27. I'm hoping the proximity sensor is a software problem. I can live with the reception problem, it's obviously a design flaw but not one that affects the phone like what is being made out on the web. It's almost as if the people bitching about it don't have an iPhone 4!

July 2nd iPhone

Death Grip present

No green blobs / too yellow pics

SIM Tray is ABSOLUTELY flush

No SIM errors.

Proximity sensors seem fine.

Still crap at finding my WiFi router, about >10m away from base.

Thanks all.

Keep the replies coming...

Received mine yesterday, was scheduled for July 14th shipment.

In my home office (basement, but next to a window), the signal meter will fluctuate from full bars to 1 bar if I have it in my hand and cover the bottom left of the phone (not the death grip). When upstairs, the signal meter is always 5 bars no matter how I hold it. I've had a few dropped calls, BUT my 3gs has dropped so many calls the last few months I think it is att not the phone.
Otherwise, the phone is flawless. But, I'm holding onto my 3Gs in case I return this phone if the signal becomes a problem.

Updated mine. I was just on a call, the phone went to speaker phone. I slowly pulled the phone away from my face. The display was ON, and speaker icon was pushed :(
