Anyone have the plume pods as a WiFi Extender?

I received a new all-in one cable modem/router from my cable company. I want to extend my WiFi across my yard to my external garage if possible (roughly 50ft or so from router and going through several walls). They gave me 2 of the plume pods to act as extenders but I can't for the life of me get them to work. It seems the initial pod must always be connected to the router/modem via ethernet cable, which I'm not a fan of and defeats the purpose IMO. Does anyone use the plume pods as an extender and can advise me on how to properly set these up as extenders? Thanks
