Since 11.5.1 I've had hugely frustrating problems with my external screens not waking up with my M1 Mac Mini.
One screen is connected via HDMI, and the second via a CalDigit TB3 dock and DisplayPort.
Everything used to work flawlessly, but now the screens frequently fail to wake up once they go into power save mode, even if sleep on the Mini is disabled:
The only way to fix it is by disconnecting and reconnecting things from the computer which forces it to wake up the video output. I've had inconsistent results disconnecting the HDMI cable or a USB-A connected to a camera, but disconnecting the TB3 cable to the dock works every time. However, it's very inconvenient because I have a load of peripherals connected the dock which have to be ejected, turned off etc.
Interestingly, when I tried to connect remotely to the Mini using screen share from another Mac, it was unable to connect.
This implies that the Mac itself enters some kind "hibernation" state that can't be woken by the Bluetooth keyboard/touchpad or external network devices. To repeat, I disabled sleep on the computer, but still have screens set to turn off after 30 minutes. I might try connecting a USB keyboard to see if this makes a difference.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
