I upgraded from an M4 iPad Pro to an M5 iPad Pro and am running into a weird charging issue and was wondering if anyone had noticed an issues.

I had been charging my M4 iPad with either a Pluggable TB4 dock plugged into the side when I need an external monitor or to access some external devices or an Anker 100w charger plugged into the charging port on a MKB when I just needed to charge the iPad. Both worked with no issue on the M4.

Got the new M5 home, plugged the Anker into the MKB and it was not showing that it was charging. Tried it on the side port on the iPad and it worked fine. I tried a different Anker charger I had with the same result. Same result with the TB4 dock. I then tried the Apple charger that came in the box with the iPad and it charged with no issues through the MKB.

I am not sure what to make of this. I experimented with different cables and it made no difference. I ordered the new Apple 40w dynamic power adapter which I'll use in place of the Anker but was wondering if anyone else had seen anything like this.

Check the ports if they need to be cleaned. It's working perfectly fine on my Anker 778 dock. Using the Thunderbolt 4 upstream port, plugged into my mkb.

I'll try cleaning the port, but it does work with the same cable on the Apple charger but does not work with either Anker or my TB4 dock.

Also clean the contacts on the MKB and the back of the iPad. No problem with my M5 & MKB, even with a Pitaka case on the iPad.

Maybe reboot your iPad?

Something similar happened to me a few days back. When I connected my magic keyboard, the cursor wouldn't work and my iPad didn't charge (when the cable was plugged in to the keyboard's extra port). I tried restarting my iPad, and it worked shortly after.

I tried that and then a factory reset. I think there must be something wrong with the iPad as has been randomly charging and then stopping all weekend. I will take it back and exchange it I guess - this isn't normal.

So I decided to exchange the iPad for a replacement and the new one works with all my chargers on both the MKB port and the port on the iPad. Clearly the previous one was defective.
