I have a truck now, use it a lot as a truck for work and home stuff, but it's just becoming a pain to fill up, so I'm gonna sell it and buy a car (plus it's better for the environment :) ). Anyways, anyone own an Altima sedan? Let me know how you like it, what problems you have had. Anything to watch out for.

I found an 08 near me with the tech package (nav, hid headlamps) and they quoted me an internet price of 28. As far as I have researched on edmunds, thats great, the going rate for them here is about 32 here.

Also, I got to test drive it a little and play with the navigation. It seemed with the voice control that there was a long lag time between when I said something, and it recognized that I said something. In my Toyota, the response is instantaneous. Is there any way to change this lag time?

Thanks!

Also, any pictures of colors, interior and exterior, would be great!

I don't have any hands on experience with recent Altima models, but if they are anything like the older ones then it should be a great car. We have a 1997 Altima and it has held up quite well for its age. I definately reccomend a Nissan.:apple:

New owner...

I've owned my fully-loaded 2008 Nissan Altima SL (with Nav, Connection Package, Leather, all add-ons, etc.) for about a week now. I can honestly say I'm in love...

You're right about the slight delay after you request something to when it delivers - however honestly it's really not that bad. What it delivers is pretty thorough as well. I haven't had any difficulties in finding anything I wanted to..

I am currently looking for hacks / modifications to change little annoyances however, like the inability to put in a destination while the car is moving (what? I'm TOTALLY referring to my passengers.. heh).. Overall? Amazing car though...

I'm getting the iPod interface add-on for the glove compartment tomorrow. I hear it sounds phenomenal over the Bose speakers..

And, the honeymoon period has ended.

I take my car in to get the iPod interface to be installed. Almost 4 hours on Friday, they say they're having difficulty and ask me if I can bring it back on Monday when they have a Nissan Tech there to help. I return Monday morning.

After not hearing from them all day, I call Monday afternoon to ask when I can pick it up. The response I get?

"Apparently the iPod interface doesn't work with the Nav system model, only the regular radio." - which is contrary to what I was told when I purchased the car. Honestly, it was my final selling point to BUY the car. I wanted an iPod interface I could control via the nav system - otherwise I would have gone with my other car choice...

I have read in another forum that, quote "theyre in the process of developing an ipod interface for the alty's with the nav system.....i cant wait for that....according to another member on here he talked to the people at Nissan and they said sometime in July." though that really doesn't tell me much - nor does the guy at my Altima dealership know anything of this interface...

I am beyond irrate right now. I just spent over $30k on a car for a specific set of features I wanted, was told I could get, and now am being told are not available...

I drive an 03 Altima and love it. However, I have a friend who own an 08 model that he bought with about 30,000 miles on it last year. He's loved it as well, but just this week it's had a transmission problem that is going to cost over $7000 to fix/repair/replace.

Apparently, these models have a new type of transmission, "smooth shift" or something like that. He said you don't feel the shifting, you know the little jerk that lets you know your cruising through the gears. Anyway, he felt the problem, but it went away. I should say he knows a good deal about cars. Well, the factory warranty is expiring next month so he took it out last weekend for a couple hours straight to try and replicate the problem. As soon as it happened again he drove straight to the dealer and they confirmed it was a transmission issue that is affecting some people.

Basically, happy ending because the full cost of the repair will be covered by the warranty. But I think it's scary to have that kind of major problem in a car less than a year old. I've always had great experiences with Nissan and so this surprised me. I realize this was originally posted a few months ago, so for all potential buyers out there, have it checked out thoroughly, especially for any "known" issues that might arise.

well it is nice to read an update. My GF owns an 06 or 07 Altima and love it. Really it is a nice car.

My biggest problem with the altima is the 2.5L engine models and that is the fact that Nissans QR2.5L engine is a piece of crap and one of the worse engines they have ever put out. That engine replace one of there best engines.

I drive a 04 Sentra SE-R Spec V which has the 2.5L engine in it. While it has severed me great mean others have had problems with it and it all traces back to the engine.

Minus I do not trust the engine in both my car and my GF everything else is great. Both cars have a huge amount of low end power. The extra features on the altima is really nice.

Now the altima will not be has likely to suffer the same problems as the SE-R but that is because how it is geared and the CVT tranny run the car at a much lower RPM. The car will not past the RPM point where the butterfly values will open up to allow more air flow, and curising at 70 MPH the altima is at 2k RPM compared to the 3.1K my sentra is at.

Over all great car. Just I have trust issue with the engine because of all the reports I have read bout them and the problems they seem to come up with. They have patches for the 2006 and beyond but just to point out how little faith people had in it. Nissain pulled there 05 2.5L alimta off the lots mid year. Did the same with the sentras
