I would use it, but my ISP forbids me from making a server accessible outside my home network :(

I'd love to be able to remotely control my Mac - it would make my life so much easier.

You don't have to become a DNS server to use OpenDNS. OpenDNS offers their high performance, high availability DNS servers to the public. In many cases, their DNS servers out perform your ISP's DNS servers. They also filter phishing sites. I've been using them for some time with great success.

All you have to do is set your network preferences for DNS to:

208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

If you have a router, you can skip your OS X network preferences and set your router to use the OpenDNS server addresses above.

Oh, I get it now. I've never heard of them, but I'll be sure to give it a try. ;)

Sure do. In my experience, they're much more reliable than Verizon's FiOS DNS Servers

I used them and they're great. My current ISP has super quick DNS so I'm with them at the moment. OpenDNS are better than most UK ISPs I've had in the past though.

Started using them yesterday. Really, really fast. MUCH faster than my ISP's DNS, though I can't get my router to use them as the DNS server for some strange reason.
