Man I am using an external dvd-r 12x drive with dvd ram and dual layer support, and the amount of dvd software available to the G3 is so crap it isn't funny. All I want to do is just make some dvds with a half decent menu! First apple stops me from being able to run the latest apps because of the G4 restriction, god people will be pissed if windows programs start limiting pentium 3 users from installing them!

I can't even run idvd, can't run dvd studio pro, so i'm stuck with toast 6, I use it on my 800mhz g3 ibook and it can't even burn 1 3gb dvd-r without screwing up on a coaster. I've gone through about 8 dvd-rs now and they are beginning to cost me. No I don't have a powermac or powerbook or another computer, and I invested a heap of money to get this external case and drive.

More over I can't do anything I want to make some nice dvd menus, but i have erm toast 6....and there isn't anything else I can run.

My solution seems to be lets throw my ibook away and buy a new one oh a powerbook you say.... oh wow I forgot i'm a university film student who can't afford an portable myself. I am a switcher and I know that the g3 doesn't have altivec and all that stuff, but I think I am not expecting too much for a laptop to last more then 1 year, I just want to burn a few backup dvd-rs for my dv work and the occasional dvd video. I don't mind waiting a day or two if I have to.

As an customer, I think its a bit nasty for apple to neglect backwards support so badly, my old ipod has completely lost support, and none of the stuff they sell runs on it anymore. It always seems that the apple solution is to throw away/sell my ibook and ipod and buy a "brand new" one.

So is there anyway I can make half decent menus on a g3, and what suggestions do you guys have to prevent my dvd-r coaster problem?

Sorry if I was being a bit rude I know some of you are hardcore fans, and I am just displaying my view for someone who has switched for just a bit more then a year and is beggining to get really annoyed by the lack of compatibility and backward support of apple technologies.
