Since I upgraded to Catalina dev beta, I'm having my Mac shutting down and then I need to unplug it for a while, plug it back to try to turn it on.
I don't know if it's hardware or software, so a little bit of statistics could help.
I tried to downgrade to Mojave, but the SMC version doesn't downgrade and I'm still getting those problems (2.41f2 is what I have, does the stable version of Mojave have the same version?)
Now upgrade back to the latest dev beta of Catalina, and still have the problem.
It's not a soft shutdown in any way, it's not a kernel panic, it's a cold hard shutdown.
