Switching for the iPhone from Verizon? I'm debating whether or not to switch but I'm not sure. I get good reception with Verizon and AT&T says I'm in 'moderate' reception area, but what is moderate, really?

Define "Central Illinois"... It means many things to many people. Where I am from (Johnston City, IL) it means north of the I-64 Corridor. If this is the case it can get spotty...

Thats cool. Pekin is even closer, haha.

My sister's fiance says that when he comes over he gets 1-2 bars. He doesn't have an iPhone though (iPhone gets better reception, maybe? I dont know).

I'm in Champaign and I'll be making the switch from Verizon when my contract is up on August 7th. Several of my co-workers have AT&T and say that reception is good...although they do experience dropped calls. It sucks that we don't have 3G here though.

Yeah, but Champaign is a little bit bigger than where I live.

Bloomington here and I made the switch, but we also have 3G available as well. Everything has worked out good thus far.

in St. Charles, and if I go out to route 47, it'll switch the Edge, but the majority of coverage within 50 miles of chicago is 3G.

central illinois looks mostly EDGE.

Yeah, you're in a better reception area than me. What I don't get is why does Bloomington have 3G, but not Peoria?

I am in Elgin, IL and 3G is great up here. Posting using iPhone tethering.

You're both from the Chicago area, meaning Northern, IL. :p

I spend some time as a Verizon Customer in rural central Illinois. I have a friend in rural central Illinois with AT&T. On our 2G phones, just talking, AT&T always has better 2G service in the rural areas around LaSalle-Peru, Utica, Princeton, El Paso. (Generally, the rural areas north of Bloomngton.) If I lived in rural central Illinois, I would try switching to AT&T.

I am going to try AT&T. I have to wait for my iPhone to come in, though.
