just curious if anyone just uses the Apple cases and a screen shield on the X, if so how well is it holding up? Does it really need a life proof or Otterbox ?

No? It just depends on how you yourself handle your phones. I’ve had mine in a silicone case and it still looks like it’s brand new.

I'm using an apple silicone case on the x. This is my very time using apple cases. Previously used (and still like Spigen), but I like the apple cases now & probably will just stick with them from here on out.

In terms of the type of protection, or what it "really needs", will certainly vary based on individual users. There are tons of choices out there for consumers, so you just have to find something that's right for you.

Some people need a Otterbox because they require more protection (or prefer the peace of mind).

But, ultimately, it's going to vary. I personally like the apple cases!!

I used to like them a lot and use them. Just recently, however, I dropped my iPhone 8 Plus that I had in a Apple silicone case. I dropped it from waist-height and it fell in such a way down the non-protected/open bottom area, that it left a solid dent near the lighting port. So yeah, not going to buy them anymore.

Instead, I'm now using the Rhinoshield Mod case for my iPhone X and for my iPhone 8 Plus. The protection is much better, the comfort isn't as high, though.

I only use Apple branded cases, and right now I have mine in a silicone Apple case with the Belkin Anti-Glare screen protector (since they do not sell the Belkin Glass protector right now due to recall) and my iPhone X looks like the day it came out the the box.

It does depend on your persona usage though. If you are doing really outdoorsy things as an example you might want more protection than an Apple case. So an Otterbox or something like that.

Depends on you, ultimately.
