I'm thinking of popping down to either Bullring, Bham or Touchwood centre in Solihull, but wondered does anyone have any idea on the number of units of each model the stores may have for sale on day 1?

34,738 +/- 8 at your local Apple store. Sorry I don't have the numbers for other UK options...

From past experience (in Canada at least), Apple stores have tons on the first weekend, by lots, I mean in the thousands per store. They usually have them in full view behind the counter. As for dealers, it is usually very limited in the few dozens at the most spread across the different colors/sizes.

I always said that the best time to get it is on release date (Friday) in an Apple store. One they sell out, they only trickle in after that for the next couple months.
