I am about to go to college this coming fall and I am of course wanting the all mighty powerful/reliable MacBook Pro. As some of you already know Apple usually upgrades to their new notebooks around this time because of graduating high school students need notebooks to go to college. I was hoping maybe someone would know any info on the new Pro's coming out (EX. release date, contents of the new notebook, e.t.c) Any info would b greatly appreciated! :D

Define new.

There will be no new graphics card. We have no idea what CPU they will use (speed bumped Penryn later this year or waiting until 2010 at the earliest for Arrandale). HDD will probably be larger. RAM will stay the same.

i bet the new MBP will have a logic board inside... maybe some RAM.

but no seriously. definite 8GB RAM option, definite SSD option, possibly battery upgrade ala 17"

all these things don't really change the MBP though.. you can already do all these so why make it standard.

I believe there's a good chance for the ATI 4000 series to start showing up in the next MacBook Pros.

Apple's MBP, MB, MM, and MBA will not be returning to ATI cards...Ever. It's not going to happen. AMD/ATI is going down the drain and Apple isn't going to journey down that road. Not to mention that it would require more work for Apple to write the hardware/software for the new GPU when they already have the 9600/9400 right now.

In what way is AMD/ATI going down the drain...at least in the GPU department?

That would be nice but as now I am kind of scared of Nvidia mobile GPUs after the faulty 8600/9600. Sadly I think the most likely will be the GT 130m.

Idk where Tallest Skil gets the idea there will be NO graphics card updates, while I think it is totally possible that Apple doesn't update them there's still a good chance they will. The 9600m is old.

And OP I'm in the same boat as you, but I'll let you know that it is pretty untraditional for Apple to update laptops right before back to school season, not saying it has not happened but about 2/3 times they haven't.

I don't think anyone really knows...some people just choose to act like they sit in meetings apple has regarding their products rather than making it clear its only their opinion.

Well, actually we don't even know that Apple will make another revision of the macbook pro. I mean, they haven't announced it yet ;)

And on the nVidia vs ATI debate, the ATI cards seem to be MUCH more more reliable then the nVidia ones, and ATI is currently the best bang for the buck among graphics cards.

Apple uses whatever card that is low power, reasonably fast and cheap. If ATI make that card, Apple will use that card. And since both the new iMac and Mac Pro use ATI cards, your logic fails.

ATI would be by far the best bet for any Mac. ATI's OS X drivers are much better than Nvidia's, end of.
