I love fishing, I just ordered a new reel, and my dad owns a USA rod building company. How about my fellow MacRumors community?

I am by no means an experienced "fisher", but I definitely enjoy fishing with the guys on occasion.

I do drop-line-in-water salmon fishing at a Montana lake every year. Pretty fun, to say the least. I haven't had much success with other fishing attempts though.

Die-hard here. Just upgraded all my rods to St. Croix and got two Shimano Baitcasters. I don't have the best of luck, but there's nothing better than being in thigh-high water and getting away from everything. When you're unemployed, you have to pick cheap hobbies and other than the small investment for gear and the 18 dollars for a fishing license, there's not much to spend on fishing.

It's a lot better than golf, my other love.

I grew up fishing with my dad in Tennessee. We had a small aluminum boat we would use to go fly fishing or regular rod & reel fishing at a local lake. Those are some good memories. My oldest son is 5 so it's about time to start some of my own father and son fishing trips. :)

Reel I ordered:

The title of the thread should be, Anyone like to torture and kill fish?

Oh! I do!! I do!!!

Tsk, tsk, my dear silly friend, prejudice, blowing things out of proportion, and making ridiculous claims are best served in the PRSI. There's nothing but relaxed people who like to enjoy the outdoors in this thread. Go pick an argument with someone else, somewhere else.

Booya Troop!

Just bought that same reel a couple months ago, love it! It is super smooth, not that it matters but it looks great too.

I put mine on a light Ugly-Stik, words can't express the joy of pulling in a LM bass or a crappie on that setup, so much fun.

Caught this guy on the setup last week:

Anyone fly fish? I think Mac users should fly fish, leave the powerbait to the Microsoft flunkies.

I am a big bass fisher. I am only 19 so my equipment is limited.

I have
- bass pro rod paired with a shimano citica 200e
- custom rod from a builder in Tennessee paired with a shimano curado 200e7
- ugly stik soon to be paired with a new shimano spinning reel

I am a bit of a shimano fan. They work great and last forever, what else can I ask for.

I have always fished in the neighborhood lake. Pulled a nice 5lbs large mouth out of that lake this year as well as several 6-7lbs catfish. On a average day I will pull out 20 decent large mouth / sunfish in 2hrs.

I also fish out at Brookville lake in Indiana. I live in cincinnati but Brookville is a good bass lake thats only about 45minutes away. A family friend has a Ranger Commanche 520vx with a 225horsepower motor on the back end. That puppy moves and gets us to the fish.

I am not the best fisher out there but man, oh man do I love it.

Like I said in my first post I grew up fly fishing with my dad. We mainly just used "poppin' bugs" on the lake to catch sun fish/perch and bass. We always enjoyd this more than spinnerbaits or live bait becase it's constant action and you catch a lot of fish which makes it fun. My brother in law and my dad will take trips the the Caney Fork river and fly fish for trout with the full get up of waders and everything. For a while there my brother in law was into tying his own flies. To me fishing is enjoyable because of getting to spend time with people you care about. I know serious anglers will go solo, but to me it's always been a group and social activity. :)

Occasionally yes if we go camping as a family dad will bring the rods and we get the chairs a few beers and sit on the beach.

But i wouldn't go by my self. But eating fish mmmmm love fish.
