Anyone ever notice that when you turn on a macbook, there are at least two different noises that i have heard when turning them on? My roommate and i have the same computer, purchased within 2 weeks of each other and mine makes one noise when turned on and his makes another noise (much quieter).

I also went to the apple store, and some of the laptops make one noise and others make a different one when it wakes from sleep or is turned on.

I looked at the boxes and his was assembled in California and mine was assembled in china. I'm curious as to whether it has something to do with that or something else? And also if there is any way to change that?

Also, this is not just the new macbooks, it was my old one as well vs. my roommates MBP

figured it out thank you.

it is the DVD drive and the difference. the MATSHITA DVD-R drive is much louder than the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW drive. too bad i guess.
