Nope. I have no issues identifying anything as mentioned in the article, and I only use subtitles when I’m studying German and I don’t know a word.
 
It is sort of amazing (depressing) how little we seem to care about designing pleasant environments and have just defaulted to everyone wearing headphones/earbuds everywhere, all the time

I live in a situation that has more noise than I care for and it's insanity producing at times (Summer a/c unit noise)
 
I haven’t had any hearing issues from using noise canceling headphones.

Very fascinating article though. Wonder how much of it is also personality wise too. The lady in the article grew up in a small farm community, so yeah a crowded loud pub in London would be overwhelming amount of noise. Also me personally I have ADHD so every little sound distracts me. A plane will fly above and I will quickly start staring up and wondering where it’s flying from and who is on board. While my coworkers won’t even look up.
