Anyone on O2 moving to Pay as you go?

It looks as if O2 are no longer doing 12 month contacts even for upgrades. Ive been on a 12 month contract since my 3GS, iPhone4 and 4S

It looks like the better option for me now is to purchase the phone outright and go on pay as you go.

Any thoughts or tips?
