I have the base model M4 Mini and I wanted to setup an external drive with plenty of storage. But I also wanted my OS to run from the external drive full time which is why I chose the OWC 1M2 enclosure with a 2TB Crucial Nvme module. I found an excellent tutorial on YouTube on how to do this and everything works perfect. I am amazed at how much faster my external memory bandwidth speeds are when compared to the internal 256GB storage.

Anyone else doing something similar?

Yes, I have another thread on it. When you put the Mac to sleep does the OWC sleep as well (LED light not blinking regularly, enclosure cools to room temp)? Also on temp, the reading from the Mac Fans app is pretty consistently around 42 for every day use. It crept up to 44 when I was briefly working on a FCP project off the SSD.
