Anywhere but here
Whenever I open Safari the program does not open maximized properly. See attached picture. Maximizing Safari and relaunching it does not help. It opens in the same position as before. This also happnes with Sherlock 3.

Any suggestions?

Neither program was designed to maximize to full screen. When you hit the green maximize button it is designed to go to the maximum width of the page you are on. Therefore by oversizing it you opened up a bug that the originial designers didn't compensate fore.

the safari window placement is a known bug that will be addressed in the next safari update. if you keep the window the full size of the screen, it should load at that size when you start up the application, just moved down and to the right. if the rumors of a safari update coming soon are true, we will not have to worry about this much longer.
