A friend of mine in Romania would like me send him an iPhone 6, what would be the best, most secure way to go that also doesn't cost an arm and a leg? UPS is around $195 which is pretty high...USPS Express is $85 which isn't bad and DHL is $107, all with $700 worth of insurance.

Anyone have experience with this and can give some recommendations? Thanks.

You need to ask your friend what is best. You also need to take it to the carrier you pick and pack it in front of them to confirm the phone is in there. Shipping a phone like this has many opportunities to be stolen.

UPS and FedEx are going to be really expensive. You could always try express mail with USPS which will be a lot cheaper. Only issue is they're not as reliable as the other major carriers. But if you buy insurance you should be covered.

Looks like it's not really the best way to go...he'd have to pay about $200 in taxes on his end, coupled with $100+ for shipping and the cost of the phone, it's over $1000 for the 6 16GB version...though it's not much cheaper in Europe at 699 EUR in places like Austria (closest country selling it), which is $886 US Dollars.

I would say go with either UPS or Fedex, it is an international shipment overall.
Lay out the options for your friend and let he/she decides. Your friend is paying the shipment though, right?

Hi guys,

Sorry if it's the wrong place for this question, just seemed like a similar topic.

I'm studying overseas in Singapore and had my iphone stolen the other day. Apple is mailing my dad a new one (it was insured), but I'm not sure what would be the best way for him to send it to me. Does anyone have experience with this and know if I would need to pay customs fees or taxes, how long it would take, and how much it would cost to ship? From what I've read here and there, it seems like it could be a bit of a mess.

Thanks in advance.

If shipped by normal means taxes would come into play.

Thanks...By normal means meaning USPS? Are DHL, UPS any different...I guess the question is what are not normal means?

OP usps is best. Don't overpay for dhl or ups. I use usps to ship to England. A phone should not cost you above $40 unless it's express.
