Ive got mine to 3.1.2 and i find it relatively slow compare to a 3gs let alone a iphone 4.

What are these old buggies are good for? except being an ipod.

Any idea guys?

cheers.

I updated my 1st gen iPhone to 3.1.3 and it runs fine and is relatively quick to use etc...

I have just got an iPhone 4 and so I gave my 1st gen phone to the mrs to use on Pay As You Go simcard, however it seemed to use up her credit very quickly and she had to add credit of £10.00 on 3 consecutive days after using the phone for a max of 6 short phone calls and maybe 20 texts.

As a result she aksed for her old LG phone back because it was costing her a fortune to keep topping up every day.
I checked the settings and can see that 'data roaming' is turned off so no problem there, but I cannot understand why her credit is being used up so quickly.
What could possibly be using the credit so much?

If you can give me any advice I would appreciate it.

Cheers!

I use mine as an iPod occasionally. It's kept in the dock a lot, it's in perfect condition so I'm holding onto it. I really liked the design of the original

Data roaming ≠ data usage. You will have to turn Cellular Data off or add an x to the end of the APN to deactivate data.

Fetching/push email is probably what's causing the credit to run down so quickly. Stop data services to resolve this (as opposed to disabling fetch/push- this way you can continue to get push/fetch notifications when on WiFi)

I just upgraded to an iPhone 4 last week and was using my old 2G until then. It's now just hanging out on my night stand and acts as an alarm for me.

i would love to buy one to use as a shell and try and transplant a 4 into one to mess with people :D

Thanks for your reply 'TheMacBookPro'

I will try what you said and see what happens, but I may have to get a cheap simple PAYG simcard to test it before the mrs lets me put her simcard into it again lol.

Cheers!

Admittedly, my 2G iPhone pretty much sits in a drawer. It works perfectly, but since I have the 4, it obviously doesn't get much use. The only time it gets use is when I do a battery dump of my 4, or whenever I travel abroad, I can purchase a pre-paid SIM card to use.

many many people are using oldest iphone... just search on eBay or Amazon "iphone 2g" :D

I am going to try to give it a week to see if its much slower in all day to day works.

I tried playing veggie samurai on it and god it lags lol. i guess ipod is the way to go for these.

Then agan they are 8 gb in size only.

I bought one recently to add to the collection and then realized (the hard way) that my carrier does not offer 2G GSM.

I gave mine to my daughter.
It has a T-Mobile prepaid SIM in it now. No data. ;)
She can use WiFi if she wants to download anything.
