Anyone successful in streaming to Homepods

I’m using the latest beta update on a m1 Mac mini with stereo homepods. Since using the betas I have not been able to successfully airplay to the speakers from the music app, any video from Safari etc. Yet I have read about people having success to varying degrees.
Can anyone enlighten me please on how to get airplay from the Mac to work properly?
