it's the alternate method: going into DFU mode without button pushing.

my home button is unreponsive, and i need to jailbreak it. i have an ipod touch 1st generation, 8 gb. anyone jailbroken their ipod using this technique? thanks! once i jailbreak it i plan to use the cydia app dock or sunburst or clickonce to easily switch between apps.

There is only one way to jailbreak and unlock anymore. You need the Dev Team's PwnageTool or QuickPwn.

not if you have a 2g, I believe 2nd gen's need to use redsn0w or quickfreedom or the like
