I recently got an MSI GS65 gaming laptop, but I’m kind of regretting my purchase. I don’t game too much these days, and really kind of miss my old 2012 rMBP I sold a couple years ago. New laptop is very fast but “clunky”, various pauses/stutters here and there, I’ve already had to update drivers to bring back a missing WiFi, it’s flimsy feeling and I just can’t get the trackpad to have the right acceleration.

I’m thinking of returning the MSI to Best Buy and getting an open box 15” TB 16GB 512GB. It specifies the Radeon Pro 560X so I assume this means it’s a 2018 model? Condition is “Excellent Certified, no accessories missing” for 2491, which is just over 300 off.

Obviously no one here knows about this specific computer - just wondering if anyone here has gotten an open box and been satisfied with it. I’m very tempted.

Go for it.

At worst, you can return it.

I've bought a couple over the years and never had a problem.

I have never purchased a MBP, but I have purchased other items. Best Buy does a crappy job of checking stuff out from my experience, but mostly it’s stuff like missing cables, adapters, etc.

You have a return period. Spend it making sure everything checks out, the computer works well and everything that should be included in the box actually is. With the MBP there isn’t a whole lot in the box and nothing important that you wouldn’t miss immediately. So give it a shot and return it if you have any concerns.
