Anyone try the 8TB Seagate Archival drives yet? At $300 they are real tempting.

I have not for this particular model but I have tried the other data 8TB Seagate HHDs, ST8000NM0045 and ST8000NM0055 and both are very good.

I picked up five them back in April to use in my NAS. I have not had any problems with them yet and I just picked up three more last week to get all the drives in my NAS to be 8TB.

If you search on Amazon, they can be found for around $230 each now.

i was gonna pick up one for general storage, but reviews say they are slower than normal and should get 6tb instead?

5tb has also been stated to be unreliable.

Not only that I've read reports that they get very hot too, and can be rendered inoperable unless you have them in an enclosure with good fan(s).
