Hi

Has anyone unlocked their UK Iphone ? and avoid O2's 18 month contract?

I assume the activation process is similar to that of the US? hence if someone was to buy an Iphone and not activate the o2 contract via iTunes it's basically theirs to keep?

Can anyone confirm whether this is so ? and how do you users unlock the iphone, etc ?

If so, can anyone share their experiences as to how they managed this ?

Cheers

No sim unlock is yet available for the new firmware. I believe a Jailbreak method does exist though. Give it a little time, in a few weeks an unlock tool will exist

Thanks for the update - this jailbreak method, does it involve activating the iphone via itunes ? or can that be avoided?

Activation can be worked around (of course) but at the moment from what I've heard the current methods leave the phone in rather an odd state.. ie. you can't actually dial a number :p

Give it a while so there's an 'end user' version. It took weeks from the first 1.1.1 jailbreak to get to something as slick as jailbreakme.com.
